Warm RIVER

Day 31—Thursday, September 1—Red Rocks Lake Wildlife Refuge to Warm River Campground, part of Targhee National Forest in Idaho

65 miles

Action shot

Leaving Montana: a really lovely and friendly place with amazing landscape and climate diversity. On to Idaho!

Two views of sunrise over Red Rocks Lake

Improvised a bit on this stretch. Trail called for riding on an old rail bed that used to bring tourists to Yellowstone. Guide says beware of very soft volcanic sands that can make travel a chore. Also our friends from the night before say that ATVs use this path which can only make the soils less stable.  We opted for a scenic byway which was lovely and ended up at Warm River campground.  We soaked in the river and the sun seemed a bit more merciful today. Lovely place!

On to Wyoming tomorrow!
